Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Health and Family Services will join the national campaign Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America) and Prevent Child Abuse New York in marking April as Child Abuse Prevention Month by participating in a Pinwheels for Prevention display.
“Pinwheels for Prevention engages people to take ‘extraordinary ordinary’ actions that can reduce stress for families and increase resilience for kids,” said District 2 Legislator Nadia Rajsz, chair of the Legislature’s Health & Family Services Committee. “The bright blue-and-silver pinwheels are a happy and uplifting token of childhood. They stand as a symbol of hope and bright futures we want for all of New York’s kids.”
The Department of Family Services, Public Health Services and the Department of Community Services will be planting small pinwheel “gardens” at the County’s Liberty Human Services Campus this coming Monday, April 16 to support the PCA America campaign and New York State’s Office of Children and Family Services’ Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition Day.
“We are encouraging staff to dress in blue on April 16 to raise awareness,” said Health & Family Services Commissioner Joe Todora. “During the entire month of April, let’s all, as parents and County residents, reflect upon and share in our efforts to prevent abuse and strengthen families.”
