Sullivan County Human Rights Commission Welcomes New Executive Director

Monticello, NY – Ari Mir-Pontier, a resident of Barryville, has been appointed Executive Director of the Sullivan County Human Rights Commission.

Mir-Pontier is a dedicated professional with a breadth of community relations and outreach experience. Many know her as the multicultural program manager for the Sullivan Renaissance beautification and community development program. Her work with the Human Rights Commission will complement her already broad mandate, which is to create activities and programs which increase participation of multicultural communities in Sullivan County, with a special focus on Spanish-speaking residents.

She volunteers with many community organizations, including the NYS Mentoring Program at R.J. Kaiser Middle School in Monticello, the outreach committee for S.A.L.T. (Sullivan Agencies Leading Together), and the advisory committee of the Latino Alliance of Sullivan County.

Outgoing Executive Director Lorraine Lopez-Janove left the Commission last week to accept a position as chief diversity officer for the Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster branches of SUNY. Commission Chair Judy Balaban-Kraus says, “The members of the Commission gratefully acknowledge the superb job Lorraine has done in spreading our message of inclusion and respect for all of our residents. We wish her much luck in her new endeavor.”

The Sullivan County Commission on Human Rights is dedicated to fostering mutual respect and understanding for the rights of all persons in Sullivan County. Meetings, open to the public, are held on the second Thursday of each month in the Legislative Meeting Room of the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello.
