Sullivan County Adult Care Center Earns Federal Four-Star Rating

Liberty, NY – Sullivan County is pleased and proud to announce that the Adult Care Center (ACC) has earned a fourth star in the federal government’s Five-Star Quality Rating System, a notable increase from the previous three-star ranking.

“This represents a true step up in our quality of care and reflects the attention given to our residents by a compassionate, dedicated staff and the leadership of our new administrator, Frank Murphy,” said Sullivan County Health & Family Services Commissioner Joe Todora, under whose division the ACC operates. “I congratulate all of them for this achievement.”

“I am thrilled to see this increase in our ranking,” added District 2 Legislator Nadia Rajsz, chair of the Legislature’s Health & Family Services Committee, “and it proves that, whether for a short stay for rehabilitation or a longer stay for skilled care, our ACC should be the first choice for our citizens.”

“Our goal is to give the best possible care in the best possible environment, and I am gratified the facility is being recognized for such by an objective, professional assessment process,” noted Murphy, who began leading the ACC last summer. “Now we’re focused on reaching the top five-star ranking, and I am confident the team with which I am privileged to work will achieve that goal.”

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and identify areas about which they may want to ask questions. Each nursing home is given a rating of between 1 and 5 stars.  Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality, and nursing homes with 1 star are considered to have quality much below average.

Factors involved in the ranking include staffing levels, reported or observed healthcare deficiencies, and the amount of successful community discharges, functional improvement, new/worsening pressure ulcers, antipsychotic medications, urinary tract infections, hospital readmissions, mobility decline, physical restraints, moderate/severe pain, catheter usage and injurious falls.
