Accessing and Using Outlook Webmail

Important! Before we even get started, be sure to close the browser window and logout of the computer when you finish with your webmail session. If your login is left open and active on a computer then someone else can get into your email and send as you. Not a good thing to have happen!!
Step 01: Logon to your mailbox via a Web Browser

These instructions are for accessing Web Mail from OUTSIDE the County system. The addresses below will not work from your workstation at the office within the SCG domain.

Enter https://webmail.scgnet.us/owa into the address field of your web browser and press Enter or click Go OR;

Enter http://co.sullivan.ny.us and select "Sullivan County Outlook Web Access" from the "Links" menu. Click the Outlook Web Access link on the resulting page. This will open Web Mail in a new window.

You will be presented with a security alert window. Click Yes to continue.

Note: To trust this certificate (recommended) and skip this security certificate warning, in Internet Explorer:

Click Tools.

Click Internet Options.
-
Click the Security tab.
-
Click the Trusted sites icon and then click the Sites button.

In the Add this Web site to the zone: dialog box, enter "https://webmail.scgnet.us" (without the quotes).

Click Add. (It will now appear in the Web sites: display box below.)

Click Ok. Click Ok.
-
Finished. (You should now no longer be prompted with the security certificate warning).

You will then be presented with a Connect to webmail.scgnet.us logon window.

Enter your SCG domain user name and password just as you would when logging into your workstation at the office. For security reasons DO NOT EVER check the "Remember my password" checkbox.

Press OK.

Step 02: Creating a New Message

While in the Inbox folder, click the new message icon to open a new message window.

Fill in the To:, CC:, Subject:, and body of the message as appropriate.

Click the Send icon to send out the message.

Step 03: Finding an Address

Click the Address Book icon on the email toolbar.

Type known information in the fields provided.

Click the Find button.

Click on the name of the person you want to send a message to. Then click on the New Message button on bottom of window. A new message window will appear with that person's name in the To: field

Step 04: Opening a Message

Highlight the INBOX in the left side pane. A list of emails will appear in the center pane and the highlighted message will appear in the right or bottom pane for reading.

A double click on the message will open that message in a separate window for reading.

Step 05: Deleting a Message

Open the message.
-
Click on the Delete icon on the toolbar of the message reading window.
OR
-
In the center pane of the mail window highlight the message and click on the Delete icon to delete message without reading it.
NOTE: The message will disappear. It is now in the deleted folder of your mailbox and will be permanently deleted when you exit the current mail session.

Step 06: Replying to a Message

Open the message.

Click on the icon to reply to persons listed on the From: line or click the to reply to everyone the message was sent to.

Enter your message in the body section.

Click the icon to send the message.

Step 07: Forwarding a Message

Open the message.
-
Click on the icon.
-
Enter your message in the body section.

Click the icon to send the message.

Step 08: Attaching a file

Create a New Message or Reply to an existing message.

Click the Attachments button in the New Message window.

Type the name of the file, or click the Browse button and find the file you want to attach.

Click the Attach button after each file is located in the browse.

To delete an attachment, click the checkbox next to the attached file and click Remove.

Click the Close button when all files you want to send are in the Current file attachments list.

Step 09: Logging out of your mailbox.
1. Click on the Log Off icon located on the right end of the toolbar of the mail window.
